RENEWAL is designed to offer hope and comfort to people suffering from mental health disorders or addiction disorders, and support to the people who love them. Our approach is based on respect for the dignity of the people we serve and the belief that through a faith-based program, life-changing results are possible.

Apologetic Gambling

According to Rehab International, research reveals that in America, approximately 2.5 million adults suffer from compulsive gambling, about 3 million are considered problem gamblers, around 15 million adults are under the risk of becoming problem gamblers, and 148 million fall under the “low risk gambler” category. The research furthers says that the addiction is more common among Caucasian Americans in comparison to Hispanic Americans and or African Americans.

Gambling combined with alcohol or other addictive patterns appear when treating the underlying personal problems. Gambling has been made easier to access than street drugs as it is now available in the comfort of the person’s home by use of internet conveniences.

Just like other addictions, gambling behavior affects a persons vocation, social, physical and psychological spheres.

Learning to live an alternative lifestyle to replace gambling that has taken literal control of a person’s live is not an easy task to do alone. Much like trying to stop drinking or stop taking dope. You can’t do it alone.

Since gambling has become a legalized norm across the nation, the social effects have been substantial.

John Hopkins University researcher says that the cost of excessive gambling “ranks among the most expensive illnesses afflicting society” and the least expensive to treat. (Politzer,et al., 1985) One alarming statistic about gambling addiction involves the suicide rate among active gamblers.

Their is no fruit in gambling. The book of Proverbs talks about the dangers of drinking and gambling. Even Jesus declared that every person is responsible and accountable on how it is morally responsible to be a faithful steward over their money that He has entrusted them with (Luke 16:10).

Every year, billions of dollars are wasted at casinos that eventually leads to alcohol or drug abuse and even suicide.

Should Christians be concerned? Absolutely. It is not to say that gambling is a sin but to say what behavior is right with gambling? None.

Brookhaven Hospital Renewal Christian Care program is here to serve you, to help you recognize symptoms of behaviors that may be need to be address by professional counseling.
