RENEWAL is designed to offer hope and comfort to people suffering from mental health disorders or addiction disorders, and support to the people who love them. Our approach is based on respect for the dignity of the people we serve and the belief that through a faith-based program, life-changing results are possible.

Christian’s Mental Health New Year Resolutions for 2014

new year 2014

The year 2013 has just ended and January 1 marks the day when Christians all over the world make their New Year’s resolutions. New Year’s resolutions often focus on weight as well as finances but it can also extend to making resolutions concerning your mental health.  If you are one of the many people who want to improve your mental well-being this year, then here are the top mental health resolutions people make on New Year’s Day.

Treat Self With More Respect

Treating yourself with more respect is a great way for you to start living a healthy and happy life. For you to do this, you can start by listing ten positive things about yourself. This will make it easier for you to look at your life with positivity. Moreover, finding worthwhile characteristics will also help you accept yourself more, thus, treating yourself with more respect comes easily.

Be More Proactive

Most people tend to react rather than acting on situations in front of them. One of the most popular resolutions related to Christian mental health is to become more proactive. There are times when people feel like everyone is pushing them around, and, instead of doing something about the situation, they retaliate instead. Being overly sensitive is one of the results of being too reactive. Learning how to disarm yourself from uttering hateful words and just embracing reality is one of the best ways to be more proactive for the new year. Roman 17:2 (NIV) ” If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone”.

Learn How To Relax And Enjoy Life

In most cases, people often forget how to relax and enjoy their lives. I remember growing up watching the Andy Griffith Show and seeing the cast just sitting back and relaxing.  Most of the time, we now spend our lives at work without ever unplugging from its stresses. Relaxing and having fun is not an irresponsible thing to do. It is our bodies’ way of relieving all the stress that we feel. To enjoy and relax more, you can take on new hobbies, praying or just hang out with your friends and family. Dedicating a time during the day for relaxing is very important, but if you do not have enough time on your hands, make sure that you dedicate at least one day every week. Even God took a day off: Genesis 2:2 (NIV) “By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work”.

Stop Being Defined By Labels

Most people live by labels these days and, unfortunately, we become our own labels with the things that we say when we describe ourselves. Thus, one of the most popular mental health resolutions is to stop defining oneself with labels. Dropping your labels allows you to have full control of yourself. You also do not limit yourself which prevents you from achieving great things. So instead of saying “I can’t do anything”, you can say I can do all things through Christ who strengthens mePhilippians 4:1

Rebuilding Broken Bridges

As the years go by, we end up burning bridges and forgetting about them.  Thus another popular resolution people make during New Year’s Day is to rebuild broken relationships. By rebuilding broken bridges, we tend to move toward the future without being burdened by the past. Forgiveness seems hard but it’s harder on us to not forgive. Luke 17:4 (NIV) “Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying ‘I repent,’ you must forgive them.”

Making a New Year’s resolution is very important as it gives hope to all people out there that the next year will be better than the previous one. God does have a great plan for 2014, so don’t give up.
