RENEWAL is designed to offer hope and comfort to people suffering from mental health disorders or addiction disorders, and support to the people who love them. Our approach is based on respect for the dignity of the people we serve and the belief that through a faith-based program, life-changing results are possible.

RENEWAL: Christian Treatment and Recovery is an optional treatment supplement available through Brookhaven Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Christians & Suicide

Suicide, the act of intentionally causing one’s death, is an issue that is becoming more prevalent in today in society even among those of the Christian faith. Suicide is bringing a wide focus on how leaders and parishioners in the faith community are coping with the issues at people who take their own life.  Many suicide victims are trying to get away from a life issue that seems impossible to deal with, and they feel their only way out is to take their own life. As Christians, our sense of sadness and grief over the loss brings a dark reality of unfathomable questions of why.

One first must accept the terms that they will have to experience the stages of grief (Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, Acceptance) to fully emotionally recover from the loss but it will not be easy unless you fully give yourself over to your maker, God. Our need for God is revealed in our “growing awareness” that our whole being by its very nature is one vast need, incomplete, preparatory, and empty yet cluttered, crying out for him who can untie things that are now knotted together and tie up things that are still dangling loose.” Experiencing the suicide of someone you love will put you in a place where all you can do is cry out to God, the only one who can untie things that are all knotted together and the only one who can tie up the grief, sorrow and confusions that are dangling loose. In John 6:68-69, Peter said “Lord to whom we shall go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God”. Where else will you go? Who is bigger than the things in your heart that are tied in knots or dangling loose? After all the struggling, the sickening grief at the finality of the act, you can say “I do not understand this and I must leave it with you my God and my King”.

In the middle of these hard realities your faith and trust in God will grow and prosper. God explains it this way: “Blessed is the men who trust in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD. He is like a tree planted by the water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.(Jeremiah 17:7-8) “. The desert in the Bible is the place of death, no water, and no food, full of poisonous snakes. It is a place where your faith is tested.  As you deepen your trust in God, you desert will become a place where you find God’s living water of hope, mercy and blessing. God’s living water is His presence.  He is the only one who can reassure your heart because He says, “I am with You”, even in the darkest circumstances. Constantly remind yourself that Eternal God is with you. He is bigger than death. He promises that one day death will be ended and all sorrow, sighing and tears will be wiped away. (Revelation 21:4)

There are great Christian advocates that are trained in the area of suicide and want to help you through this hard time of dealing with the loss of a loved one through suicide.  Don’t wait any longer to seek the spiritual and emotional health that you deserve to grow in your walk of faith. Don’t let the suicide death of a loved one bring you to question God or your faith.
