RENEWAL is designed to offer hope and comfort to people suffering from mental health disorders or addiction disorders, and support to the people who love them. Our approach is based on respect for the dignity of the people we serve and the belief that through a faith-based program, life-changing results are possible.

Fruit of the Spirit: Meekness

Written by Lydia D’Ross, Ordained Minister and Outreach Chaplain for Renewal at Brookhaven Hospital

There are nine(9) defined fruits of the spirit that the bible teaches us about and for the past several weeks we have been writing about how each one of these fruits, and  how they  apply to our daily life and our walk closer to God.  Today we will be touching on the Fruit of Meekness and what that means to us as Christians. (Galatians 5:22)

Meekness may be defined as “mildness, forbearance, or a state of being submissive and humble.”  The act of meekness means “ total dependence on God.”   In comparison to the fruit of gentleness; gentleness is something you say or do, while meekness is a state of being.

Meekness is displayed when a person is able to control their mind, will and emotions. Before you can move on to develop the rest of the fruits for your life. You must have a strong handle on meekness. Meekness will help you  walk out the rest of the fruit of the spirit.

Meekness is not weakness!  It takes a lot of courage to walk in the fruit of meekness. Meekness is an excellent fruit to exercise especially if you are struggling emotionally and spiritually. The outcome of meekness is that it develops who you truly are in Christ.

Jesus said it perferctly. “Come to me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take my  yoke  upon you, and  learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and you will find rest unto your souls.” (Matthew 11:28 &29)
