RENEWAL is designed to offer hope and comfort to people suffering from mental health disorders or addiction disorders, and support to the people who love them. Our approach is based on respect for the dignity of the people we serve and the belief that through a faith-based program, life-changing results are possible.

RENEWAL: Christian Treatment and Recovery is an optional treatment supplement available through Brookhaven Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. At Brookhaven, we understand that when you are suffering from an eating disorder, a personality disorder, a behavioral health disorder or chemical dependency, life can seem utterly hopeless. It can cause Christians to feel abandoned and distant from God. However, by strengthening your spirituality, in conjunction with our professional medical services, you can experience results that you never thought were possible.

RENEWAL is based on the belief in:

God who created us and loves us (Genesis 1:26)
Jesus Christ who redeems us (Isaiah 53:5)
The Holy Spirit who guides us (Acts 1:8)

When you participate in RENEWAL, you’re part of something much bigger than yourself. Brookhaven clients receive expert care from our team of mental professionals. Treatment is solution-focused and success-oriented. Our goal is to minimize symptoms, help individuals address life problems and live fulfilling lives. Sometimes healing requires a helping hand. Hearing God’s Voice in Troubled Times

Counselling and Support - Listening HandsWritten by: Lydia D’Ross, Renewal Program Outreach Chaplain and ordained minister

When we pray, we are talking to God. We can easily forget that God wants to talk to us, too. We need to wait on Him to see what He wants to hear. It takes practice to have a listening ear, but if we do all the talking, we will never learn to hear from God. You may have heard the saying: God gave us two ears and one mouth because he wants us to listen twice as much as we speak.

Our prayers are often about ourselves, and not about others. Philippians 2:3 says, “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.

In these troubled times we are reminded in Psalm 138:7 that “though I walk in the midst of trouble, You (God) will revive me; You will stretch out Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and Your right hand will save me. When we pray, God already knows our thoughts and God’s thoughts for us are of peace and not of evil, to give us a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11). We cannot hear from God if we go about doing our own thing and think we don’t need God. We also cannot hear from God if our thoughts are full of fear and anxiety. Those thoughts become like cotton in our ears and make it that much more difficult to hear God’s voice. 2 Timothy 1:7 says, “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” Power, love and a sound mind—what an amazing gift!   God has given us the power to overcome, and the ability to walk in love and a sound mind. God also comforts us in Exodus 33:14, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Rest from fear, rest from anxiety and worry. God is our source of rest in the midst of the ever increasing pace of life and times of trouble.

How do we get in tune to hear God’s voice which comforts us? For starters, God’s voice is your own voice; it is not a different tone of voice, or a thunder from Heaven. For believers, it is that small still voice that gives you prompting to do something or describes a way through a situation. When you begin to exercise those promptings, your hearing becomes stronger and will bear witness to what you’re doing for God, your family and your business. Living strong for the Lord by spending time in prayer and taking time to be still will help you hear God’s voice.   Live for God no matter what the world brings.
