RENEWAL is designed to offer hope and comfort to people suffering from mental health disorders or addiction disorders, and support to the people who love them. Our approach is based on respect for the dignity of the people we serve and the belief that through a faith-based program, life-changing results are possible.

RENEWAL: Christian Treatment and Recovery is an optional treatment supplement available through Brookhaven Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. How to Help a Friend Who Is Suffering From Thanksgiving Depression

The turning yellow of the leaves is a reminder to many that Thanksgiving is already near. This is also the time when many people are triggered to feel stressed out, anxious and depressed. Holiday depression is common among many people who suffered the loss of a family member as well as personal failures. If you happen to have a friend who is likely to suffer from Thanksgiving depression, you can do something to help your friend cope with his or her depression.

The Signs Of Thanksgiving Depression

The number of people who suffer from Thanksgiving depression is just a tip of the iceberg. There are many people who tend to withdraw, saying nothing about their problems because they do not want to pull other people down into their misery. This means that it is less likely for your depressed friends and family members to tell you outright about their problems.  Thus, it is important that you know how to determine the tell-tale signs of depression.

People who suffer from depression are usually withdrawn. While most people are cheerful about the coming Thanksgiving holiday, people suffering from depression might not be looking forward to the festivities. They also often lack the energy to make preparations for the holiday. If you notice one of your friends or a particular family member exhibiting these signs, then you should intervene and try to help them cope with holiday stress.

Show That You Care

Many people who suffer from depression might find it difficult to ask for help.  You can show them that you care by offering simple gestures such as visiting them at their homes. A mere “hello” is all it takes to brighten up their day. Another way of showing them you care is to listen to them. Do not assume that you know everything about the person. Give them a chance to speak their minds and unload their worries. By offering your ear, you will be able to help them a lot.

Invite Them to Your Home or Out to Dinner

If your friend will be celebrating Thanksgiving alone, then invite him or her to celebrate with you at home. Not only will it make a difference to your friend, but celebrating Thanksgiving with more people who matter to you is also fun.

Reaching out to friends who suffer from depression during Thanksgiving is the best thing that you can do for the holiday. Not only will you be making a difference in the life of your friend, but you will also be able to celebrate a meaningful Thanksgiving. It communicates to your friend the idea that life is precious.
