RENEWAL is designed to offer hope and comfort to people suffering from mental health disorders or addiction disorders, and support to the people who love them. Our approach is based on respect for the dignity of the people we serve and the belief that through a faith-based program, life-changing results are possible.

RENEWAL: Christian Treatment and Recovery is an optional treatment supplement available through Brookhaven Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. At Brookhaven, we understand that when you are suffering from an eating disorder, a personality disorder, a behavioral health disorder or chemical dependency, life can seem utterly hopeless. It can cause Christians to feel abandoned and distant from God. However, by strengthening your spirituality, in conjunction with our professional medical services, you can experience results that you never thought were possible.

RENEWAL is based on the belief in:

God who created us and loves us (Genesis 1:26)
Jesus Christ who redeems us (Isaiah 53:5)
The Holy Spirit who guides us (Acts 1:8)

When you participate in RENEWAL, you’re part of something much bigger than yourself. Brookhaven clients receive expert care from our team of mental professionals. Treatment is solution-focused and success-oriented. Our goal is to minimize symptoms, help individuals address life problems and live fulfilling lives. Sometimes healing requires a helping hand. We’re here to provide the guidance and support you need to recover.

Learning to Look For the Presence of God

Religious Light

One of the most crippling aspects of depression and anxiety is the crushing loneliness or forsaken feeling that patients often report. They may logically be able to identify that there are members of their family and community that love them, but their brains make them feel as if that love doesn’t exist. Even when physically surrounded by loving people, depression and anxiety patients can feel completely alone.

These feelings also often translate into a person’s perceived relationship with God. When we feel destroyed by depression, alone, broken, and forgotten, we often feel frustration with God or feel that he is ignoring our cries for help. Of course, God is always there for us to offer love and support, but mental illness distorts this truth and can make you feel completely detached from the Lord’s nurturing.

While counseling and medication can help with the biological conditions that support mental illness and allow us to cope, it doesn’t help our relationship with God. That is a personal responsibility. But, the Lord is always there for us, when we know how to look for him.

Scott Holman, blogmaster for the Society for Christian Psychology website, shared a list of ways you can “practice the presence of God” or how to consider the way God interacts in our day-to-day lives. If you struggle with feeling forgotten by God or alone, practicing the concepts can help you realize that you are never alone and deal with the loneliness and isolation that plague depression sufferers.
