RENEWAL is designed to offer hope and comfort to people suffering from mental health disorders or addiction disorders, and support to the people who love them. Our approach is based on respect for the dignity of the people we serve and the belief that through a faith-based program, life-changing results are possible.

RENEWAL: Christian Treatment and Recovery is an optional treatment supplement available through Brookhaven Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. At Brookhaven, we understand that when you are suffering from an eating disorder, a personality disorder, a behavioral health disorder or chemical dependency, life can seem utterly hopeless. It can cause Christians to feel abandoned and distant from God. However, by strengthening your spirituality, in conjunction with our professional medical services, you can experience results that you never thought were possible.

RENEWAL is based on the belief in:

God who created us and loves us (Genesis 1:26)
Jesus Christ who redeems us (Isaiah 53:5)
The Holy Spirit who guides us (Acts 1:8)

When you participate in RENEWAL, you’re part of something much bigger than yourself. Brookhaven clients receive expert care from our team of mental professionals. Treatment is solution-focused and success-oriented. Our goal is to minimize symptoms, help individuals address life problems and live fulfilling lives. Sometimes healing requires a helping hand. We’re here to provide the guidance and support you need to recover.

Looking at the Roots of Our Problem

Written by: Lydia D’Ross, Renewal Program Outreach Chaplain and ordained minister

For the next several weeks, we will be looking at the cycle of domestic violence.  If left untreated, the roots of the problem will continue on for generations. We will discuss the myth of that the Bible condones domestic violence. We will also explore why Christian spouses might stay in a violent marriage rather than seek professional help.

“From 1998 to 2011, the Oklahoma Domestic Violence Fatality Review Board identified 1,059 homicides (an average of 81 deaths per year) resulting from domestic violence that occurred in Oklahoma. There were 219 deaths (20.6% of the state total) reported for Tulsa County in that time frame. Oklahoma is currently ranked 11th in women murdered by men according to the Violence Policy Center (Washington DC) report issued in September, 2011. There were more than 21,000 domestic violence calls to the Tulsa County 911 system in 2011. Oklahoma ranked 3rd in the United States for females murdered by males.”–Statistics according to The Family Safety Center.

These statistics are beyond disturbing.  The Tulsa Family Safety Center’s mission is to help educate the public about the severity of this problem as well as to help those affected by domestic violence.  It has a unique spiritual care component.  The Family Safety Center Chaplains tell me that the victims have a sense of relief when they are told that they have done nothing wrong.

As chaplains, we must recognize signs and symptoms of the cycle of domestic violence. Keep in mind that the victim might not have visible marks on their bodies as one powerful aspect of domestic violence is emotional and verbal abuse.

As chaplains, if you suspect possible domestic violence, The Family Safety Center chaplains can assist you in your referral process.

We invite pastors to attend our Pastoral Seminar on April 9th, 2015, 11:45 am-1:00 pm, when Rev. Melissa Slagle will discuss pastoral counseling in times of crisis.  To reserve your spot, call 918-438-4257.
