Valentine’s Day is a very special day!  There are many ways for us to tell someone that we love them.  For Christians, the origins of this holiday are that St Valentine came from the Catholic tradition, and some considered it a pagan tradition. As I researched about the history of the making of Saint Valentine, I found it dated back in the fifth century. In the 1700’s, America adapted the practice of exchanging cards in celebration of Valentine’s Day.

We as Christians celebrate and express our love to our heavenly father daily, through worship and intimate prayer with him.  Valentine’s Day is a special day to share our love with those we care about, and express God’s love to those who don’t know Him as their Father. Many people are hurting today, because the love that they knew as a child has faded or is no longer there.

For some, feeling loved is difficult because of un-forgiveness, hurt and shame. For those who are struggle with being accepted and loved, I recommend writing a letter to the one who loves you the most in this world-our Lord, Jesus.

In this digital age in which we live, a handwritten note is becoming all the more special.  I love writing letters to Jesus. Try writing him a letter today. Here is one of my Valentine’s letters to Jesus.

Dear Jesus:

Happy Valentine’s Day! I just wanted to let you know how much I love you, and I am thinking about you today. I think about all the things we went through and how much I know that you are always with me to carry me through. I remember that day, I was walking in the park and I was looking at the marvelous works you created for me to enjoy. I remember when I felt alone, how I was reminded in your Word, that you never leave me nor forsake me. Thank You Jesus!”

Love,

Lydia

I encourage you to be kind to someone today, and express a little love. It will bring warmth to your heart, and it will make that person’s day.  If you are struggling with un-forgiveness toward someone, I want you to know that Christ loves us unconditionally.  Surrendering your hurts to Him as well as turning over any judgement of those who have hurt you will help you to forgive in the way that He has forgiven all of us.
