RENEWAL is designed to offer hope and comfort to people suffering from mental health disorders or addiction disorders, and support to the people who love them. Our approach is based on respect for the dignity of the people we serve and the belief that through a faith-based program, life-changing results are possible.

RENEWAL: Christian Treatment and Recovery is an optional treatment supplement available through Brookhaven Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. At Brookhaven, we understand that when you are suffering from an eating disorder, a personality disorder, a behavioral health disorder or chemical dependency, life can seem utterly hopeless. It can cause Christians to feel abandoned and distant from God. However, by strengthening your spirituality, in conjunction with our professional medical services, you can experience results that you never thought were possible.

RENEWAL is based on the belief in:

God who created us and loves us (Genesis 1:26)
Jesus Christ who redeems us (Isaiah 53:5)
The Holy Spirit who guides us (Acts 1:8)

When you participate in RENEWAL, you’re part of something much bigger than yourself. Brookhaven clients receive expert care from our team of mental professionals. Treatment is solution-focused and success-oriented. Our goal is to minimize symptoms, help individuals address life problems and live fulfilling lives. Sometimes healing requires a helping hand. RENEWAL Devotional: Being Misunderstood

Written by Lydia D’Ross, Ordained Minister and Outreach Chaplain for RENEWAL at Brookhaven Hospital

Have you ever been misunderstood? Being misunderstood can be frustrating, and can even end relationships. Jesus was misunderstood by some in many ways. It is the reason why he often used parables as a communication method to get his point across.

The worst feeling about being misunderstood is that it can taint someone’s reputation through the inaccurate spread of gossip. Whether it was intentional or not, being misunderstood can leave a painful scar in someone’s heart and on the human spirit.

When getting ready to communicate about a very important issue with someone, it is important to pray first. Ask God that the conversation goes the way He wants it to go, and that the truth will speak for itself.

Good communication will help you avoid being misunderstood.

Here are some good tips:

  • Pray about your intentions and the message you want to get across.
  • Practice what you are going to say.
  • Don’t say anything if you feel the outcome is going to hurt someone’s feelings or even possibly ruin a good relationship.

Matthew 5:17 says it best, “But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ be ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.”
