Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world…, and the pride of life–is not of the Father but is of the world.(1 John 2:15-16) Pride is giving ourselves the credit for something that God has accomplished.
The sin of pride is being preoccupied with self. Pride is all about “me, myself, and I.” We forget about others, become self centered, selfish and even arrogant. This offends others and most importantly, pride offends God. We become so full of ourselves that we don’t realize the impact that this pride has on others.
There is good side of pride, for example, a person takes pride in their work because they are striving for excellence and want to achieve a goal. We need to evaluate ourselves and the motives in our hearts so we don’t fall into the temptation of pride.
When we are not careful with pride in Proverbs 16:18-19 tells us that “pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.” Pride keeps us from moving forward, it can bring marriages to an end, destroy families and even keep people from getting the help they need.
