For the past several weeks, Oklahoma and neighboring states have experienced tornadoes, hurricane threats and severe flooding. In times like these, we rely on our spiritual faith to get us through difficult times.
We thank God that we have made it through the storm and begin to thank Him for our life, family and friends. We meditate on all the good things that God has done for us when we were in tough situations and somehow, through faith and hope, we made it through.
As the storms continue to roll across our state, I have reflected this week on the way that a storm is analogous to our journey in life. Things can look pretty bleak one minute, and then the skies can clear, the situation can turn around for the better when we least expect it. We cannot overcome hurtful events in our lives by ourselves. We need hope and words of encouragement in our lives. Sometimes thinking back on the storms of the past that we have survived can give us strength to face new situations.
I challenge you this week to make a list of things you have overcome by God’s grace, love and hope. You can begin with, “I am an overcomer because…” Give us feedback on how you felt when you completed your list. Hope is not deferred but is inside of us-it just needs to be inspired. Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life. [ Proverbs 12:12]
