A score of 8-16 on the survey indicates normal; 17-24 indicates
moderate spiritual deficiency; and a score of 25-32 indicates significant
spiritual deficiency. As indicated by the table, patients are entering
the hospital with a moderate spiritual deficiency, and leaving in
the normal range. For a detailed report, contact Chaplain Bob Wester,
or Ron Broughton.
Interpretation
Results indicate the Renewal Program services are a factor in the patient’s recovery. It is important to remember that all patients, regardless of whether or not they chose to participate in the Renewal program, are administered the SIS upon admission and discharge. The three areas of greatest improvement for the 4th quarter are: grief/sadness, despair/hopelessness, and anger/resentment.
On the admission survey, 48% indicated they either often or very often feel grief/sadness. On admission 63% often or very often feel grief or sadness. Upon discharge, 25% answered they often or very often feel grief or sadness. This is a decrease of 38%. The second area of strongest improvement was with feelings of despair/hopelessness. Upon discharge, 8% stated they either often or very often feel despair/hopelessness. This is a difference of 31%. The third area of greatest improvement was anger or resentment. On admission, 47% answered they often to very often feel anger or resentment. At discharge, only 17% checked often or very often. This is a difference of 30%.
All eight areas surveyed continue to show improvement.
Renewal Satisfaction
Patient satisfaction is an important component of any program.
Patients are administered a Renewal Satisfaction Survey at discharge
to evaluate the Renewal Program. Following are the results of the
fourth quarter of 2007.
