RENEWAL is designed to offer hope and comfort to people suffering from mental health disorders or addiction disorders, and support to the people who love them. Our approach is based on respect for the dignity of the people we serve and the belief that through a faith-based program, life-changing results are possible.

RENEWAL: Christian Treatment and Recovery is an optional treatment supplement available through Brookhaven Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. At Brookhaven, we understand that when you are suffering from an eating disorder, a personality disorder, a behavioral health disorder or chemical dependency, life can seem utterly hopeless. It can cause Christians to feel abandoned and distant from God. However, by strengthening your spirituality, in conjunction with our professional medical services, you can experience results that you never thought were possible.

RENEWAL is based on the belief in:

God who created us and loves us (Genesis 1:26)
Jesus Christ who redeems us (Isaiah 53:5)
The Holy Spirit who guides us (Acts 1:8)

When you participate in RENEWAL, you’re part of something much bigger than yourself. Brookhaven clients receive expert care from our team of mental professionals. Treatment is solution-focused and success-oriented. Our goal is to minimize symptoms, help individuals address life problems and live fulfilling lives. Sometimes healing requires a helping hand. Spirituality and Addiction Recovery

Man Praying

Written by Lydia D’Ross, Ordained Minister and Outreach Chaplain for Renewal at Brookhaven Hospital

According to the National Center on Addiciton and Substance Abuse at Columbia University’s research study on Sprituality and Addiction, “80 percent of Americans believe in God or some other greater power.” (Feb 26th, 2014)  The study further showed that “87 percent of Americans identify themselves as religious” and out of 87 percent 83 percent identified as Christians.

Spirituality plays an important role in treatment and recovery from the disease of addiction. Spirituality was incorporated in the treatment of substance abuse as early as the 1800’s through the process of peer support, which was founded by Washington Society. It was in the early 1900’s that therapists began to incorporate spirituality as a tool in helping to facilitate recovery.

Since the 1930s, Alcoholics Anonymous  has utilized tenets of religion and prayer in its self-help program, according to a report by Duke University.  We see many benefits of Spiritual Addiction Recovery Programs and research shows that addressing the spiritual aspect in treatment promotes long term recovery and positive behaviors.

At Brookhaven Hospital, we provide individuals with a medically supervised detox and therapy to support the individual in addressing their substance abuse issues.  We treat the entire person: mind, body and spirit.  Our Renewal program offers additional services for patients in the form of daily Chapel services, Bible study and spiritual counseling.
